Seeknit developed these asymmetric circular needles for use with sock yarn. Asymmetric Circular Needles have a short needle and a long needle.
Put the stitches on the short needle and work through with the long needle. Since the moving needle is longer it is easier to hold, making these suited for small circular projects (such as socks).

I’m using them and they do the job (knitting sleeve). Do find them a little hand cramping to use and am wondering if not they’re not the best for those of us with larger hands? I will however keep them and use them. Perhaps tho just for specific tasks.
