Ula + Lia work with herder cooperatives in Mongolia to harvest the softest fibre from baby camels after their second and third winters. Although less well known than other fibre grown in Mongolia (such as cashmere), it is nearly as soft with natural tan colours and dyeing beautifully.
By increasing the popularity of high quality camel wool, it increases both the demand and price for fibres other than cashmere, allowing herders to diversify their income and herd composition.
As this yarn is produced by small manufacturers there is no infrastructure to wash the skeins once they are spun. This means that there will still be some spinning oils on them. To bring out the full softness and drape you would expect from luxury fibres, you must first wash and block your finished item. We recommend that you follow the washing instructions provided by Ula + Lia on their website.
