You love knitting, and wish that your knitting looked like what you see in the photographs?
Do you feel that some aspects of the process let your knitting down?
In this workshop, Samira will teach you techniques for neat knitting and finishing that will take your knitting to the next level.
Some of the techniques that will be covered:
  • Picking up stitches for gussets, neckbands and buttonbands.
  • Clever custom-sized buttonholes to fit any size and any number of buttons.
  • Blocking techniques,
  • Techniques to enhance the overall look of your knitting in general
  • How to mix and use cast on / cast off techniques.
  • Symmetrical shaping techniques and placement of shaping stitches

Materials & requirements

You need to be independently confident in knitting basics such as casting on, knit and casting off.

You will need to bring with you:
  •  A swatch knitted using DK or thicker yarn that is 30 stitches x 30 rows, in a light colour.
  • Yarn and needles used for swatching

Included in the class:
  • Instruction from an experienced teacher
  • Tea, coffee and snacks

    Small class size

    With only six people in the class you will receive plenty of individual attention from the tutor.

    Date, time and location

    • Saturday 13th February 2027, 2 pm - 5 pm

    Please arrive around 5 - 10 minutes before the start of the class so you have time to get settled and get refreshments. As this a half day class, there will not be a scheduled break during the teaching time.

    There is one shallow step into the shop and two steps into the studio with a secure handrail. Please call or email if you have access requirements. 

    Samira Hill

    Samira Hill is a former professional archaeologist based in the beautiful Scottish Borders. After spending years digging and traveling around the world (always with her knitting), Samira has been teaching knitting and crochet professionally to all ages, from primary school children to adults since 2013. Samira teaches most aspects of knitting and crochet both online  and in person throughout Scotland, and loves to empower crafters with new skills and not to be deterred by techniques that “look hard”.

    When not teaching, Samira is a published designer of knitting, crochet and Tunisian crochet patterns as Eildon Hills Designs, with her patterns featured in UK and worldwide publications such as The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Moorit Magazine, and Knitting Magazine, as well as self-published patterns on Ravelry. Samira is also a knitting and crochet technical editor for various independent designers and prestigious knitting and crochet publications, including the Shetland Wool Week Annual and the Journal of Scottish Yarns. Samira is also the organiser of the annual Tangled Galashiels Fibre Festival in the Scottish Borders.
