Do you admire complex fair-isle patterns and sweaters with colourful yokes?
In this class you will learn how to knit using more than one colour at a time, while making a very cosy hot water bottle cover.
Samira will teach you the traditional techniques of working with several colours in the round using the Magic Loop technique,
You'll also learn to manage floats, control your tension, follow repeats, how to read colour charts and more.
Materials & requirements
This is suitable for intermediate knitters who can independently:
- Cast on and off
- Knit, purl
- Work increases & decreases
- Work in the round (any method)
Included in the class:
- Instruction from an experienced teacher
- A pattern for a cosy hot water bottle
- Tea, coffee and snacks
You will also need:
- Two contrasting colours of DK yarn in wool or wool blend - 50g each.

3.25 mm circular knitting needles, 80 - 10 cm long
- Stitch markers

Small class size
With only six people in the class you will receive individual attention so that you master stranded knitting and take away all the skills you need to complete your hot water bottle.
Date, time and location
- Saturday 24th April 2027, 2 pm - 5 pm
Please arrive around 5 - 10 minutes before the start of the class so you have time to get settled and get refreshments. As this a half day class, there will not be a scheduled break during the teaching time.

Samira Hill
Samira Hill is a former professional archaeologist based in the beautiful Scottish Borders. After spending years digging and traveling around the world (always with her knitting), Samira has been teaching knitting and crochet professionally to all ages, from primary school children to adults since 2013. Samira teaches most aspects of knitting and crochet both online and in person throughout Scotland, and loves to empower crafters with new skills and not to be deterred by techniques that “look hard”.
When not teaching,
Samira is a published designer of knitting, crochet and Tunisian crochet patterns as
Eildon Hills Designs, with her patterns featured in UK and worldwide publications such as The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Moorit Magazine, and Knitting Magazine, as well as self-published patterns on Ravelry.
Samira is also a knitting and crochet technical editor for various independent designers and prestigious knitting and crochet publications, including the Shetland Wool Week Annual and the Journal of Scottish Yarns.
Samira is also the organiser of the annual Tangled Galashiels Fibre Festival in the Scottish Borders.
