Learn to knit toe up socks that fit you perfectly, and cast off when your yarn is done!

Taught by Samira Hill of Eildon Hill designs, you will learn how to knit in the round using the Magic Loop technique (so you can try the sock as you go), and all sock techniques to make a beautiful, custom sized and perfectly fitted pair of socks including:
  • toe shaping
  • heel turning
  • gusset shaping

Materials & requirements

You need to be confident in knitting basics such as casting on, knit and casting off.
No prior experience of knitting in the round or sock knitting is required.

Included in the class:
  • Instruction from an experienced teacher
  • Coursework and sock pattern
  • Tea, coffree and snacks
You will also need:
  • 100g sock yarn
  • 3mm / US 2/3 100cm long circular needle.
  • 2 stitch marker

Small class size

With only six people in the class you will receive individual attention so that you master knitting toe-up socks in the round and go away confident in the skills you need to complete the pair.

Date, time and location

  • Saturday 23rd January 2027 2 pm - 5 pm

Please arrive around 5 - 10 minutes before the start of the class so you have time to get settled and get refreshments. As this a half day class, there will not be a scheduled break during the teaching time.

There is one shallow step into the shop and two steps into the studio with a secure handrail. Please call or email if you have access requirements. 

Samira Hill

Samira Hill is a former professional archaeologist based in the beautiful Scottish Borders. After spending years digging and traveling around the world (always with her knitting), Samira has been teaching knitting and crochet professionally to all ages, from primary school children to adults since 2013. Samira teaches most aspects of knitting and crochet both online  and in person throughout Scotland, and loves to empower crafters with new skills and not to be deterred by techniques that “look hard”.

When not teaching, Samira is a published designer of knitting, crochet and Tunisian crochet patterns as Eildon Hills Designs, with her patterns featured in UK and worldwide publications such as The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Moorit Magazine, and Knitting Magazine, as well as self-published patterns on Ravelry. Samira is also a knitting and crochet technical editor for various independent designers and prestigious knitting and crochet publications, including the Shetland Wool Week Annual and the Journal of Scottish Yarns. Samira is also the organiser of the annual Tangled Galashiels Fibre Festival in the Scottish Borders.
